Burt Beats Lamar to Get Second Win of Season

Marysville, CA (July 23, 2016)…Grass Valley driver Jeremy Burt earned his second win of 2016 by leading all 25-laps during the sprint car main event. Burt was jubilant in victory lane because early this year he had been passed not once but twice for the lead late in main event racing. “You bet that was on my mind,” said Burt when asked about the prior losses. “I wasn’t going to let this one slip away.” Burt bested his championship rival Cody Lamar of Rio Linda and fellow Grass Valley resident Billy Wallace. Lamar passed Wallace on lap 20 and began to close in on Burt. The final five laps were great as Lamar showed Burt the bottom line might start to come in and allow him to get around the race leader. However, Burt was not going to be denied tonight and was able to hold on for the win. Lamar recorded his seventh quick time of the season earlier in qualifying. Heat race winners were Keith Bloom Jr. and Colby Wiesz. The only roll over of the race happened on lap six when Bloom Jr. flipped in turn one. He was uninjured but done for the night. Even with the win, Burt still lost three championship points to Lamar. Currently, Lamar is four points ahead of Burt going into this upcoming Saturday night.

Brent Steck led all 20-laps to capture his first career sprint car win. Steck, who has won in outlaw go-karts, never had been able to experience the spoils of victory. That all changed tonight as he dominated the wingless spec sprint car race. His victory lane embrace with his father should be a memory that both of them will cherish forever. The drivers should be commended for a nonstop action packed race. Josh Vieira finished second with another brilliant drive. Peter Paulson moved up a few spots and grabbed a third place finish. Timmy Sherman Jr. also made some nice moves and finished fourth. Johnny Burns is always hanging around the top five and ultimately finished fifth. Brett Youngman won heat race number one by over two seconds. Timmy Sherman Jr. ran away with heat two.

The IMCA Sport Mod main event featured multiple lead changes and door banging action that the fans love. Jason Ferguson led the opening two laps of the 20 lap main event. On lap three Phillip Shelby emerged as the new leader. Following him to the front was Willie Horn Jr. Together, these two drivers mashed their throttles and put on a great show. Lapped traffic played a part of the race and it was evident by the passenger side body damage on Shelby’s car. “I had to get by them lapped cars and as you can see they didn’t give us a lot of room.” Shelby went on to drive masterfully and beat Horn to the checkered by over a full second. Ninth place starting Brian Cooper once again moved up quite a bit and finished third. Todd Cooper and Jerry Bartlett battled all race long. Cooper finished fourth while Bartlett was fifth. Horn Jr. won the first heat race while Bartlett beat Jimmy Ford to win heat two. A nice turnout of 16 cars entered the evening’s race.

James Castleberry dominated the super stock main event. Early in the event Cortney Dozier applied pressure but near the half-way point, Dozier’s car faulted and he pulled to the infield. Castleberry won the race by over four seconds. Mike Walko finished in the second spot. Phillip Shelby moved up to a third place finish. Castleberry thanks his crew in victory lane.

Jim Speck beat Anthony Doubledee to earn his second main event win in a row at Marysville. The 15 lap main event went non-stop.

Point race #13 will continue this Saturday night, July 30th.
