Corey Elliott Shines in Marysville

Marysville, CA (July 22, 2017) – Bakersfield driver Corey Elliott won the 25-lap Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA) feature event Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Elliott inherited the lead when Hanford’s Michael Faccinto stopped in turn four. Faccinto had led the first 16 laps until the mechanical problem forced him to retire. Elliott went on to lead the final nine laps. Maria Cofer did a solid job and finished in the second spot. Cofer is an emerging talent that should get more attention than she does. Veteran Floyd Alvis was the final driver able to finish the race. He was credited with third. Faccinto was scored in the fourth spot. Nate Wait and J.R. Williams each stopped on lap 14. Alex Schutte would have been a factor tonight but on lap four he crashed into the turn three wall. It was a disappointing ending for him. Mason Daniel was the eighth and final finisher.

Elliott started off the night by breaking the existing midget track record. His lap was a blistering 14.176. Faccinto won the lone eight lap heat race.

R.C. Smith of Biggs enjoyed a memorable night racing in the BCRA midget lite division. Smith swept the nights racing action by turning the fastest lap in qualifying, 15.004, winning the eight-lap heat race and capturing the 15-lap feature win. Emilee Lindgren was second in qualifying and in the main event.

Mike Walko won the fantastic Super Stock feature event. Walko led all the laps but on the final circuit his right rear tire became flat and then shredded. Somehow, he managed to hold off James Castleberry at the checkered flag. The crowd appreciated Walko as he emerged from the car and then got a big kiss from his wife. Castleberry won the eight-lap heat race. Rod Oliver did an excellent job tonight and led the first half of the main event.

Rookie driver Cameron Haney Jr. won his first career winged economy sprint car main event. The kid was very humbled in victory lane. He was surrounded by his father and grandfather, who both were also competitors in the race. “We had three generations of drivers in this race tonight,” said Haney Jr. Unfortunately, the night wasn’t perfect for the Haney family as dad’s car slammed the turn two wall and flipped wildly down the back stretch. The car caught on fire but thankfully the driver emerged without any injuries. Jeff Macedo won the eight-lap heat race.

Shawn Jones dominated the three-car wingless main event. He also won the eight-lap heat race. Jones defeated Brett Youngman and Tony Richards in the feature event.
