From Couch to Victory Lane for McClenon

Marysville, CA (May 12, 2018) – Anderson’s Rowdy McClenon made a rare start Saturday night at the Marysville Raceway in the winged 360 sprint car division. It turned out to be a great decision to come back. McClenon led the final 15 laps to secure the win during Saturday nights 25-lap feature event. “I literally got off the couch and into victory lane,” said McClenon. The race was fast and furious with Bobby Butler jumping out to the early lead. Butler was running smooth laps and looked good up front until some slower cars caused some congestion for Butler. McClenon was able to make the pass for the lead coming out of turn four on lap nine. Jeremy Hawes was then able to sneak by Butler for second. On lap 17, those two made contact and Butler left the track on a hook and couldn’t continue. Hawes would restart in second.
Fast time qualifier Andy Gregg was on the move. He picked up an extra $100 from Black Out Fight Gear for the fastest lap in qualifying. He then went on to win the first heat. Starting in the eighth spot of the main event, Gregg moved his way into second on lap 20. He was tracking down McClenon when going into turn one he got loose and spun around. Gregg fell back to eight and did an excellent job to race his way back to a fourth-place finish.
Seventh place starting Kenny Allen drove up through the field and once Gregg spun on lap 20, Allen assumed the spot. Allen climbed to within one second of McClenon but was never able close enough to sneak by. Give Allen all the credit, he drove the high line looking to make moves not fake moves. Hawes finished in the third spot. Mike Monahan brought the familiar No. 49 home to a fifth-place finish.
R.C. Smith won the second eight lap heat race of the night. William Fielding picked up the win in heat race three. Both Fielding and Smith crashed out of the feature event. Fielding on lap one when he tagged the turn one wall and Smith on lap 13 when contact with another car flattened his tire and sent him spinning into the infield.
Darren Johnson led all 15 laps to win the Crate Sprint main event. Jeff Macedo at one point fell back to fourth during the race but rebounded to a second-place finish. Mike Sayre continued with his consistent finishes and brought his car home in third. Macedo won the lone heat race of the evening.
There is an adage in racing, the most important lap to lead is the lap one. That is exactly what Andrew Peckham did during the 20-lap IMCA Sport Mod main event. Peckham passed Jimmy Ford on the last lap to secure his second win of the weekend. Peckham won the night before at Silver Dollar Speedway. It had to be a crushing defeat for Ford, who had led the first 19 laps. Yet, Ford will regroup and end up in victory lane soon. Damian Merritt had a solid night. Merritt finished in the third spot. Mike Merritt finished one spot behind Damian. Phillip Shelby returned to action and earned a hard fought fifth place finish. Shelby picked up the win in heat one. Peckham swept the night by getting the win in heat two.
Jeremy Blackshere led the opening nine laps of the Dwarf Car feature. Ryan Winter started second but drifted back early in the event. Winter had to race his way back towards the front. Danny Wagner was all over race leader Blackshere. Winter charged back into second on lap eight. Two laps later Blackshere was looped around. This gave the lead to Winter. Winter held off Wagner for the next six laps. But with two laps to go, Wagner drove around Winter for the win. Kevin Bender moved into the third spot on lap 12 and it is where he would finish. Blackshere roared back to a fourth-place finish. Tim Fitzpatrick was the hard charger of the night. Starting in the 16th spot, Fitzpatrick finished fifth. Fitzpatrick also won the B main event. Mike Grenert, Scott Dahlgren, Wagner and Winter each won their heat race. Another impressive car count lined the Marysville Raceway. Twenty-five Dwarf Cars attended tonight’s race.
