Haulot and Ford Win Competitive Main Events

Marysville, CA (June 16, 2018) …. Another five-division night entertained the Marysville Raceway fans. Tonight’s races were also in honor of celebrating Father’s Day weekend. The track was tacky and fast all night. Promoter Dennis Gage should be proud of how well his track withstood the constant pounding from the wind that ripped through the Valley all afternoon and into the night time.
Chico’s Kenny Allen led the first lap during the winged 360 sprint car main event. Before the second lap was completed, Bobby Butler flipped in turn three. Also involved was Rowdy McClenon. In a separate situation, Brent Bjork spun in turn four. The next three laps didn’t provide much of change on the track. Lap four Alec Justeson stopped in turn four to bring out a yellow flag. Allen continued to lead followed by Jake Haulot and Billy Wallace.
On lap eight Allen closed in on Justeson and was trying to put a lap on the rookie driver. Unfortunately. Allen and Justeson had contact sending Allen to the infield with a mechanical problem. Justeson came to a stop on the front stretch. Jake Haulot assumed the top spot on the restart. Allen was able to make repairs and restart at the rear of the field.
The race resumed and went 13-laps nonstop until the nose wing on Allen’s cars came off. Just before that happened, Jeremy Hawes had passed Billy Wallace for second. Now Hawes would restart right behind the race leader with four laps to go.
A tough turn of events happened on the restart when Stephen Ingraham went up and over Mike Monahan’s No. 49. Also involved was John Clark. Monahan seemed to slow going into turn one and it was just a chain reaction behind him.
The final four laps were completed without a problem and Jake Haulot held on to win. Hawes finished second and Wallace was third. How about the drive by Korey Lovell? The former track champion came from 14th to finish fourth. Rowdy McClenon was also moving towards the front. McClenon started 16th and finished fifth. Bobby Butler brought home his battered-up race car in ninth. Allen salvaged his night by finishing tenth.
Thirteen cars took the initial green flag for the 20-lap IMCA Sport Mod feature event. Jimmy Ford started on the outside of row one and was able to take the lead going into turn one. Two cautions slowed the event. The first one took place on lap six while the second caution was needed on lap 12. Up front the racing was solid between Mike Merritt and Todd Cooper. Both drivers were trying to fight for the second spot. However, on lap 15, Cooper spun around in turn four to bring out the third caution of the night. On lap 17 the complexion of the race would change again as second place Mike Merritt spun to a stop. Running in the third spot was Andrew Peckham. Under the yellow flag, Peckham was penalized by the officials for being too aggressive. Both cars would restart at the rear of the field. It was Howard Law’s turn to try and pass Ford. But Ford held his advantage the final three laps and won the race. Law was second. Damian Merritt enjoyed another good point night and finished third. Hunter Merritt came home fourth. Ninth place starting Austin Manzella rounded out the top five. Jerry Bartlett finished sixth followed by Todd Cooper.
Darren Johnson made it back-to-back wins at Marysville Raceway by capturing the 20-lap win during the Crate Sprint feature. Johnson makes the long haul from San Andreas for the races and has become quite the fixture at Marysville Raceway. The lone caution of the event was needed on lap 13 for debris. Johnson had a sizeable lead at the finish line. Jaylon Deas ran in the second spot for the entire event. Jeff Macedo won the lone heat race earlier in the night and came home in the third spot. Cameron Haney finished fourth and Mike Sayre rounded out the top five. Eight competitors showed up for tonight’s race.
Tyler Lightfoot jumped out the early lead during the Super Stock feature. However, on lap two, Lightfoot spun around and came to a stop. This moved Rod Oliver to the front. Oliver would go on to lead the final 13-laps with no issues. The race was scheduled to go 20-laps, but with three cars remaining at the half way point the officials decided to cut it back to 15. Chris Warner did all he could to compete with Oliver but in the end, he just didn’t have enough and finished second. Richard Vanderploeg was the final car remaining and finished third. On lap seven, Lightfoot and Dennis Wood collided sending them both back to the pits and done for the night.
The Hobby Stock 20-lap final race was dominated by Brian Compton. The Sacramento driver lapped all the way up to third spot. The only driver on the same lap was Kyle Cheney. The race itself went non-stop. Shannon Collins came home in the third position. Jeremiah Creedon was fourth. Wes Fysh made his first Marysville start a good one and finished fifth. While Compton did dominate the race the Hobby Stocks have been a bright spot and featured a lot of good close racing.
