  • At 61 Years Old Mike Monahan Still Getting it Done
Marysville, CA (April 22, 2017) – Proving that sprint car racing isn’t just a young lions sport, 61-year-old Mike Monahan of Reno, NV led all 25 laps to win the feature event Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. “I am just lucky to be surrounded by good people,” Monahan said in victory lane alluding to his crew. Monahan got the win but it wasn’t as easy as it might sound. Michael Ing is the epitome of the young and hungry lion. Not only did Ing try everything he could do during the 25 laps to get around Monahan, at one point he even tried passing the No. 49 on two wheels. Ing had a big run to the outside of Monahan in turn two only to see him bicycle up on two wheels and somehow miraculously save it. Ing drove a hard race but ended up second. Jeremy Hawes is having that championship style year. While he hasn’t won yet, but it will come, he is putting together consistent finishes. Tonight, he came home third.......(more

Marysville, CA (April 1, 2017) …. Colfax driver Colby Wiesz led all 25-laps to win the winged 360 sprint car main event on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Wiesz was never seriously challenged for the win. Finishing in second was Chico’s Michael Ing who had a great night. Ing turned the fastest lap in qualifying and then backed that up with winning the first heat race. Third spot went to Marysville driver Jeremy Hawes. Chico’s Brad Bumgarner started eighth and came home fourth. A total of 17 cars attended the sprint car event. A scary incident occurred in qualifying when Heath Hall flipped wildly down the back stretch. The car was destroyed by Heath quickly emerged from the car and walked away. D.J. Freitas looked good in winning the second heat race. • Emerging Star Kofoid Wins Exciting Main Event at MRP
Marysville, CA (March 18, 2017) – Youth was served Saturday night when teenage sensation Michael “Buddy” Kofoid won the 25-lap main event during his first official start in the sprint car division at Marysville Raceway. While Kofoid had previously practiced at a younger age in a sprint car at Marysville, he made his first start a memorable one as he held off fellow friend and another teenage gasser Tony Gualda to get the win. The two young guns battled on the tight and lightning fast quarter-mile clay oval speedway until the checkered flag was waived. While Kofoid should get all the accolades he deserves, Gualda must also be given props for a job well done. Both kids did a great job navigating slower cars and picking the right moments to make moves on the tricky racing surface. Mason Moore had a successful night by finishing third. Moore used the Marysville pointer opener as a chance to kick start his 2017 campaign behind the wheel of the famed x1 sprint car. Billy Wallace has a strong start to the season and finished fourth. Heath Hall won a heat race tonight and finished a respectable fifth. Kofoid started the night off by turning the fastest lap in qualifying at a 12.531. A total of 18 cars entered tonight’s race.........(more
