Point Race #5 This Saturday at Marysville

Marysville, CA (May 9, 2016)…Championship auto racing returns this Saturday night at the Marysville Raceway with five divisions of race cars eager to get back on the track. Point race #4 was lost when too much rain accumulated in and around the racetrack. The weather forecast looks great this weekend and fans are ready to root on their favorite drivers.

Saturday night general admission is $13.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors and juniors and military with I.D. Children ages 6 – 11 are $6.00 while kids five and under are free. Pit gate opens at 3 PM with the front gate opening at 5 PM. Family pass is available for $40.00 and includes two adult tickets and three kids 11 and under. Winged sprint car qualifying is scheduled for 6:30 PM.

After three races Grass Valley’s Jeremy Burt holds a thirteen point advantage over Chico’s Brad Bumgarner. Burt scored a win during point race number two in helping him climb to the top of the points. Nevada driver Mike Monahan holds down the third spot and is just two points behind Bumgarner. Marysville’s Courtney Dozier is the most recent main event winner and holds a one point edge over Rio Linda’s Cody Lamar. Only four points separate second spot to fifth spot.

Brian Cooper holds a three point edge over Jerry Bartlett in the IMCA Sport Mods division. Cooper has 79 total points to Bartlett’s 76. From there it’s an eight point drop to Todd Cooper and Mike Merritt who are both tied with 68 points. Damian Merritt rounds out the top five at 67 points.

Wingless sprints are led by Woodland’s Peter Paulson. This Saturday will mark the divisions second point race of the year. Paulson got the win during the opening race. His 50 points lead Josh Vieira by just three markers. Two-time and defending champion Timmy Sherman Jr. sits in the third spot with 46 points. Korey Combs and Johnny Burns are all tied with Sherman Jr.

Greg Rayl leads the hobby stock standings by three points over Shannon Collins. With two point races completed, the racing should be fierce between the top cars. Cameron Hammett is an impressive young driver and holds down the third spot. Jim Speck and Anthony Doubledee round out the top five in hobby stock point racing.

For the third time in 2016, the traveling dwarf cars will entertain the fans at Marysville Raceway. Both prior races have featured high car counts and close racing. Johnny Reeves and Kevin Bender each have celebrated in victory lane this season at Marysville.
