Racing Resumes This Saturday Night; Crate Sprints Added to Show

(Marysville, CA 5/10/23)…Racing resumes this Saturday night, May 13, with championship point event No. 6 featuring four exciting divisions. With last weekend’s cancellation, the Crate Sprints have been added to the docket for this Saturday night. They will join the 360 sprint cars, IMCA Sport Mods, and BCRA Lighting Sprints.

For the fifth time this season, the IMCA Sport Mods are set to get back at it. Phillip Shelby sits atop the point standings. His two wins and four top five finishes give him an eight-point lead over 2022 track champion Jimmy Ford. Buddy Olschowka is nipping at their heels in third. Jason Clayton Jr. sits in fourth and is only five-points back of Olschowka. Mike Merritt rounds out the top five. So far, 30 different drivers have competed at least one night this season.

Pit gate opens at 3:00 pm. Front gate 5 pm. Cars on track 5 pm. Prices for all regular season events will be $17.00 for adults, $15.00 for seniors/juniors and military with proper identification. $8 for kids ages 6-11. Children 5 and under are FREE. As of now, if you can’t attend as a fan, NorCalSpeed.tv, is scheduled to broadcast the night’s racing. Head to their website to purchase this race.

The BCRA Lighting Sprints are led by Greg Dennett of Livermore. He holds a narrow four-point lead over Dakota Albright from Waterford. Hunter Kinney of Citrus Heights holds down the third spot. Rounding out the top five are Cody Meyer of Placerville followed by Harlee Aguilera of Orangevale. According to their schedule this will mark the fourth race of the year. The BCRA Lightning Sprints return to Marysville Raceway on Oct 28th part of the Paul Hawes Memorial.

Corning’s Brian McGahan Jr. continues to sit atop the winged 360 sprint car point standings. In four previous starts this season, McGahan Jr. has yet to finish a main event outside of the top five. He also has one win, and a fast time award. Chasing him is 19-year-old Dawson Hammes of Marysville. Hammes has similar stats to McGahan Jr. He has earned a main event win, finished in the top five all four previous races. These two drivers will continue to go at it head-to-head this season. The battle for third through fifth is tight. Carson Hammes sits third and chasing him are Kao Crane and Wyatt Brown. Only 12-points separate those three drivers.

After three events, the Crate Sprints have a logjam in the top five of points. From point leader Matthew Kaiser to fifth place Carl Droivold, they are only separated by a mere 12-points. Kaiser holds a slim five-point lead over Misty Castleberry. Both drivers have won a 20-lap feature. The most recent winner of the division is Jason Ballentine, who currently sits 10th because of missing a previous championship race. Jeff Macedo and Kelly Hicks are tied for third.

Marysville Raceway is located just off of Simpson Lane next to the Marysville Flea Market in the Yuba River flood plain. The ¼ mile clay oval has operated for more than 60 years at this location.  Over time it has had numerous configurations and operators.  Improvements over the last decade have made the facility rival any California oval track operation and draws a large contingent of racers and fans.
