Sanders Picks up Win Number Three in Impressive Fashion

(May 9, 2015)…Watsonville’s Justin Sanders picked up the most impressive win of 2015 at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night. Sanders started in the 14th spot during the 25-lap sprint car feature event. Sanders weaved his way through the field and with two laps remaining passed then leader Garen Linder of Medford, Oregon. “When the race started I thought it was going to be a long night,” said Sanders. “However, once the race started the track really opened up and allowed for a lot of passing.” It was the furthest a sprint car driver has started this year and go on to win the main event. Linder finished in the second spot. Fast time qualifier Cody Lamar finished in the third spot. Chico’s Brad Bumgarner passed the most cars during the race. Bumgarner was involved in an early accident that sent him to the rear of the field. Bumgarner restarted 21st and roared back to a fourth place finish. Jake Haulet of Cotati was a nice addition to the field and finished fifth. Haulot, Courtney Dozier and Bumgarner each captured an eight lap heat race.

Corey Hall won an action packed 15-lap mini stock main event. An abundance of crashes slowed the race to a crawl at times. Shaun Merritt and Jimmy Ford rounded out the top three. James Foster won the lone heat race.

Tim MacLaughlin scored his first win of the season in the Pro 4 Sprints. MacLaughlin beat Matt Beardsley and Misty Castleberry during the 12-lap main event. Craig Morrison took a nasty spill on lap six but walked away uninjured. Castleberry won the eight lap heat race.

Browns Valley driver James Castleberry watched Jerry Bartlett hit the front wall while leading and then saw late race leader Courtney Dozier spin in turn two with a few laps to go. This enabled Castleberry to grab the lead and cruise into victory lane. Willie Horn Jr. and Mike Walko did a nice a job to come home in the third and fourth positions. Bartlett was able to drive it deep and hard the final few laps and rebound for a second place finish. Horn Jr. picked up the heat race victory.

Johnny Burns won the 17-lap wingless main event. The race was slowed by a multiple of yellows and red flags. In all, the entire event took nearly 32 minutes. Of the 12 starting cars only four finished. Following Burns across the line were Cody Fendley, Brett Youngman and Misty Castleberry. Tim Sherman Jr. and Burns were victorious in heat race action.
