Billy Wallace Wins Thrilling Sprint Car Main
Marysville, CA 3/22/2025…Grass Valley’s Billy Wallace led all 25-laps to secure a popular win Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Yet, it wasn’t as easy as it sounds. Constant pressure from Bobby Butler the final five laps showcased both former track champions talents. Butler made a bid for the lead on lap 23 that was unsuccessful and was never to get close enough to try again on the final lap. It was a thrilling race between Wallace and Butler that entertained the race fans. Justin Henry once again continues to show he is not only a championship threat to win it all but soon will end up in victory lane. Henry finished in third. Dennis Scherer showed flashes of speed and drove his way into a solid fourth place finish. William Fielding continued to be a factor in this division and finished in fifth place.
A total of 15-winged 360 sprint cars, 23 Hobby Stocks, and 18 IMCA Sport Modifieds combined for a total of 56 race cars in the pit area for point championship race number three. The night started off with Jake Haulot once again secured the fastest lap in qualifying. His lap was a 12.937. Nick Larsen and William Fielding were heat race winners. The hard charger of the night was Carson Hall who started 12th and finished in the 6th spot.
Jacob Bright and Devin Koranda lined up on the front row of the 20-lap Hobby Stock main event. Koranda ultimately grabbed the top spot and led until lap nine. On the 10th lap Brian Cooper rolled to the bottom to perfection and took the lead. Moving into second was Kyle Cheney. However, disaster ensued on lap 17 when the defending champion and current point leader’s car stopped in turn four. Cheney was down and out. This moved Austin Shelby Jr. into second place. Problems also arose for both Bright and Koranda. Each driver had issues and finished 14th and 15th. Up front Cooper crossed the line in first followed by Austin Shelby Jr. Unfortunately, Coopers’ car failed post-race tech, and an unapproved driver change disqualified the No. 86jr. This allowed the third-place car of Toby Merrifield to be crowned the winner. This also moved James East up to a second-place finish. Jason Clayton Jr. rounded out the top three. Cooper, Merrifield, and Cheney each won their eight-lap heat race. Brian Horn was spectacular in the feature event. He started 22nd and finished sixth. In all he passed 16 cars to earn a $50 hard charger award.
The IMCA Sport Modified main event was good. Jimmy Ford was the early leader of the 20-lap race. Yet, all eyes were focused on seventh place starter Danny Wagner in his No. 11d. This driver methodically passed fellow competitors that moved him into second spot by lap 11. On lap 13, Wagner made the move around Ford to secure the lead. Chasing Wagner was Mark Garner who also moved around Ford late in the race. Garner ended up finishing second. Trevor Clymens got around Ford with two laps remaining to secure the third-place finish. Up front Wagner was on the rails and won the race with ease. Thomas Reynolds started dead last, in 18th spot. He finished in 10th place. As the driver who began from the furthest position, he earns the $50 hard charger award for passing eight cars. Jace Wright picked up the win in heat race one. Phil Marino looked good in winning heat two. Wagner picked up the eight-lap win during heat race three.
