Gauge Garcia Clean Sweeps at Marysville Raceway

MARYSVILLE, Calif., April 5, 2025…Gauge Garcia dominated the winged 360 sprint car division Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Garcia, driving Standley Motorsports, owned No. 54x, earned the fastest lap award in qualifying. Following that, Garcia won his eight-lap heat race. The final hurdle of the night was the 25-lap main event. Garcia started on the front row, rocketed out to the lead and went on to lead every lap in capturing the feature event to win. Carson Hall was impressive in the main event. He scored a solid second place finish. Dennis Scherer continued to show his driving talents and raced to a third-place finish. Brad Bumgarner was involved in a first turn, first lap wreck. Bumgarner has a never give up attitude and charged from the back of the pack to a fifth-place finish. A total of 17 cars attended tonight’s race.

The Crate Sprint 20-lap feature was captured by Matthew Kaiser. After starting in the sixth spot, Kaiser passed Caleb Ingle on lap 13. Ingle looked to be up front and on his way to the win. Yet, on lap 12, a slower lapped car impeded his momentum coming off turn four. The slower car tried to exit to the infield, but with a big head of steam, Ingle closed in too fast and had nowhere to go. This allowed Kaiser and eighth place starting Mike Hall and third place starting Jacob Johnson to pass Ingle while he was driving through the infield and back on track. Hall finished second. Johnson held on to third. Ingle came across fourth. David Derr Jr. did a great job and finished fifth. A total of 16 cars attended the race tonight.

Shaun Merritt led the first lap of the IMCA Sport Mod main event. On lap two, it was Mike Merritt’s turn to lead. But on the next lap it was Shaun’s turn to lead again. In fact, he led until lap 11 when Tyler Rodgers took the lead. Rodgers looked on his way to win but on the final circuit he spun around and gave the lead back to Shaun Merritt. Shaun led the final lap and got the win. Rodgers rebounded for second. Jimmy Ford was solid all night and finished third. Kyle Pendergrass charged from eighth to fourth. Mark Garner battled the whole race to finish fifth. A total of nine cars competed tonight.

The Dwarf Car main event was outstanding. Shawn Whitney grabbed the early lead. On lap three Dylan Shrum took the lead. Shrum led the race until lap 15. Whitney took the lead back on the 16th lap. However, Shrum found the right line to repass Whitney for not only the lead, but the win. Not only did Shrum win, but Brendon Shrum and Cody Shrum passed Whitney. The top three were all Shrum’s. Dylan won, Brendon second, and Cody third. Whitney finished fourth. Isaak Geil rounded out the top five. A total of 15 Nor Cal Dwarf Cars were on hand.

The best part of the night was the chance to raise money for fallen Marysville Officer Osmar Rodarte. The raceway held a special opening ceremony in his honor. The raceway also raised money for Back the Badge, Yuba Sutter. In all, $5,000 will be donated.
