Jayden Bunch Earns First Sprint Car Win

MARYSVILLE, Calif., May 31, 2025…Paradise, CA driver Jayden Bunch won the 25-lap winged 360 sprint car races on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. In only his ninth career start, Bunch led the final 24 laps sitting aboard the Bunch Electric / Voltage Specialist No. 11vsjr. Jayden is the son of the former track champion John Michael Bunch. Jayden also had success racing at Cycleland Speedway in outlaw go-karts. It was a memorable night for the 17-year-old driver who was mobbed in victory lane by family and friends.

Chasing him to the checkered flag was fellow rookie competitor Trey Walters of Reno. Walters earned a career best finish in a winged 360 sprint car tonight. Both drivers sit super close in points for the season long battle of rookie of the year. Championship point leader Billy Wallace cruised to a third-place finish. Both William Fielding, who finished fourth, and Nick Larsen, fifth place finisher, rebounded from a lap one accident. Carson Hall earned the fast time award. His lap was 13.802. Larsen won the first eight-lap heat race. Fielding grabbed the top spot in the second heat race.

Kyle Cheney returned to victory lane during a lengthy Hobby Stock 20-lap main event. Cheney was able to quickly get up front and avoid a lot of the commotion behind him. Another driver up front all night was Jacob Bright. Bright shadowed Cheney for most of the event and finished second. Willy King continued to impress and finished third. Toby Merrifield rebounded from a rough outing the previous week, to finish fourth. It’s nice to see Zach Lindgren return to the track and finish fifth tonight. Cheney swept the night by winning the first eight-lap heat race. Bright got the win in heat two.

The IMCA Sport Mod feature was good. Multiple top drivers with fast cars were up front and battling it out for the lead all night long. In fact, a three-car battle emerged for the better part of the show. In the end, Trevor Clymens was spectacular and won the electric 20-lap feature. Hard charging Danny Wagner came home in the second spot. Mark Garner was able to hold down the third spot. Local boys Mike Merritt and Jimmy Ford finished fourth and fifth. Mike Merritt won the lone eight-lap heat race.

Next scheduled show is June 14th and features the Hunt Wingless Tour, Crate Sprints, and Hobby Stocks.
