Marysville Raceway
Schmitz, Sarale, and Shrum Win at Marysville
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Schmitz, Shrum, and Sarale Pick up Wins at Marysville Raceway
Marysville, CA (5-2-26) … Another solid turnout for point race number six at Marysville Raceway with 54 cars packed into the pit area. Three divisions were on hand to participate. Winged 360 Sprints, Dwarf Cars, and BCRA / WMR Midgets. After the night was over, all three winners shared a common theme. Their last names started with the letter “S.” Casey Schmitz, Dylan Shrum, and Caden Sarale were the winners.
Dennis Scherer had them covered from outside front row. At one point he enjoyed a nearly three-second lead before colliding with a slower car on lap 17. Casey Schmitz was in the right spot at the right time, running at that time in the second spot. Once Scherer had contacted and stopped, Schmitz was the leader. Schmitz had to hold off a hard charge from Carson Hall to the checkered. Dryver Dothage finished third. Dothage and Scherer each won an eight-lap heat race. Schmitz turned the fastest lap in qualifying at 13.328.
Dwarf Cars accounted for half of the 54 cars on hand. With 27 competitors at the track a B main event was needed. Dan Geil led the early part of the 20-lap main event. On lap seven, seventh place starting Dylan Shrum took the lead. It was a spot where he never gave up. Geil was involved in a late race accident. Tenth place starting Brenden Shrum moved into second but was unable to pass the leader. Third went to Corey Eaton. Mike Reeder came home in fourth. Cody Shrum finished fifth. Dennis Gage reports the feature race was stopped short of the 20 laps because of two lengthy reds. Everybody was reported as okay. Ben Mangini won the nonstop B main event. Fred Dickey led the first three laps but fell back to third at the finish. Tim Dodson finished second.
Once Caden Sarale came from 6th to pass Myles Tomlinson on the 3rd lap of the midget feature he was never seriously challenged for the win. A red flag was displayed on lap 21 for Isak Johnson, who had flipped on the front stretch. On lap 26, Logan Mitchell moved around Tomlinson for second. Terry Nichols passed Tomlinson for third on the final lap. Nick Leonard Jr. came home in the fifth spot. He was never able to pass Tomlinson for fourth. Dennis Gage reports that his longtime friend Floyd Alvis, 91-years-old, finished 9th. Sarale led the charge in qualifying with a 14.026 fast lap. Sarale swept the night by winning the first heat race. Cody Gray got the win in heat race two.
