Grass Valley’s Mel Hall was instrumental in the revitalization of Marysville Raceway. With the closure of Ernie Purcell Speedway in Grass Valley after 1994 it put a void into the racers and fans weekly grass roots auto racing. Hall had the vision to move on to Marysville Raceway and revamp the existing facility. To his credit the facility has flourished since his arrival and to this day continues to be a vibrant part of the Northern California dirt track racing scene.

This Saturday night numerous drivers and fans will get to pay their respect to Hall with the 16th Annual rendering of the race named in his honor. While he is no longer with us, his memory is kept alive by his family and friends. With great support from them, the 30-lap main event will pay a staggering $3,000 to win. There will also be added purse money to the fast time qualifier, heat race winners and the dash. The total sum of money will be announced at the event. We would like to recognize those people who have contributed money at the time of this press release; Mel’s Transmission, A.R.T Enterprises, Silver Dollar Speedway, Riebes Auto Parts, JB Racing Components, Sellers Race Wings, Performance Auto Supply, Chris and Ted Shelton, Randy and Christine Zaveson, Bud and Rose Boyer, Jim and Sandra Seaman, Bella, Carson and Marlena Hall.

Sebastopol’s Bradley Terrell holds a 14-point lead over Watsonville’s Justin Sanders entering this Saturday night’s Civil War point race #4. Terrell won the second event at his home track of Petaluma Speedway. Roseville’s Sean Becker won the most recent race for the series at Calistoga Speedway. Fremont’s Shane Golobic won the opening round race at Marysville back on March 20. Sitting third in points is Cobble Hill, British Columbia driver Robbie Price.
