Sanders Gets 4th Win at Marysville

Sanders Gets 4th Win at Marysville

Marysville, CA (June 14, 2015) – Watsonville’s Justin Sanders continued his winning ways Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Sanders won the 25-lap winged sprint car main event in dominating fashion by nearly eight-seconds. With the win, Sanders now has four wins this season at Marysville and eight wins overall in 2015. “It is a testament to Rudy and the entire #18 team,” said Sanders during post race interview. Riebes Auto Parts presented point race #7 tonight.

The General Jerry Bartlett rose to the occasion and grabbed his second win of 2015 at Marysville. Bartlett inherited the lead on lap 12 when Cortney Dozier pulled to the infield with mechanical problems. Up to that point, Dozier had the field covered. Trailing Bartlett was James Castleberry and Rick Dozier. However, both of those drivers were too far back to challenge Bartlett. Mike Walko drove a solid 15-lap main event and finished fourth. Steve Hammett rounded out the top five. The Super Stocks are a unique breed of car and driver. It is always fun to watch them sling mud. Rick Dozier won the lone eight lap heat race.

Jimmy Ford continued his winning ways and won the mini stock main event. Six cars started the main event. Two of the front runners could not make the distance as James Castleberry and Kyle Davey each watched the finish of the race from the infield. Damian Merritt and Shaun Merritt pressured Ford for the win but neither had what it took to take the lead. Davey won the heat race.

Mike Monahan jumped out to the early lead during the sprint car 25-lap main event. Monahan held off Brandon Dozier for the first six laps. Sanders made his move around Dozier on lap seven and began to close in on Monahan. From lap seven until lap 12 Monahan made his famed #49 awfully wide at times on the track. Sanders used patience in judging the right time to make a move. Sanders found an opening on lap 13 and moved around Monahan for the lead. Once in the lead, Sanders checked out. Lap after lap he continued to build a staggering lead. Behind him the battle for second was extreme. Monahan held the second spot until lap 20 when Dozier was able to sneak by. On the ensuing lap, eighth place starting Cortney Dozier passed Monahan for third. On the final lap, Jeremy Burt moved around Monahan for the fourth spot. Cody Lamar and Brandon Dozier each won their eight lap heat races. Lamar turned the fastest lap in qualifying with a 13.044. It was Lamar’s fourth fast time award of 2015 at Marysville and fifth overall for the year.

Racing resumes this Saturday night, June 20th, with point race #8 featuring the final visit of the year for 410 winged sprint cars.
