The Shark Returns to Victory Lane

Marysville, CA – (10-29-22) …After a season of highs and lows, Sean Becker came into the Paul Hawes Memorial Sprint Spooktacular without a win in 2022. The driver known as the Shark, had won at least one main event per year since June 28, 2002. The whispers around the sprint car world going into Saturday’s night race centered around Becker’s failure end up in victory lane. After a dramatic 25-lap feature event, Becker was the first driver to see the checkered flag. Starting seventh, Becker avoided the first lap wreck between the cars that lined up in front of him. The Shark then raced his way into second and began to close in on his Shark Tales with Andy cohost, Andy Forsberg. On lap 18, Forsberg closed in on the rear of the field. On the 19th circuit, Forsberg dove to the bottom going into turn one. His car began to spin around and came to a stop in the infield berm. Forsberg’s car had front end damage that occurred when he contacted another car on the original start. Forsberg earned extra money from Troy White for the hard luck award. Becker drove the Monhoff Racing No. 35 perfectly for the final six laps to get the popular win. The victory also put those whispers to bed and Becker’s 20-year winning streak will continue into 2023.

Thanks to Jeremy Hawes and H & H Trenching, the win paid a staggering $2500. Hawes also added an extra $100 to the drivers who finished second through 6th. Coming off his win in August, Dawson Hammes finished in the second spot. Justin Henry drove the Spencer No. 34 from the 13th starting spot to third. His drive opened a lot of eyes to their potential for 2023. Blake Carrick went 10th to fourth. Brad Bumgarner led the first nine laps and ultimately finished fifth. Bumgarner turned the fastest lap in qualifying with a 12.150. Stephen Ingraham passed the most cars. Ingraham started in the last row and drove his way into an impressive seventh place finish. Koa Crane dominated the 12-lap B main.

Matthew Kaiser dominated the 20-lap Crate Winged Sprint Car main event. Kaiser held a 4.530 second advantage over Kevin Lovell at the finish line. It was good to see Lovell compete in this division. David Sims ran in the third spot for most of the race. Following him was the best race of the evening. Jason Ballentine passed Misty Castleberry coming out of turn four on the final lap. Great effort by both drivers.

Shane Hopkins led all 20-laps to win the wingless spec sprint feature. Jimmy Christian held the second spot until lap 12. Brent Steck got his elbows up and ran the high scary side to pass Christian. Adam Walters is always a top driver and finished fourth. Kaimi Moniz-Costa rounded out the top five. The race was slowed by five different cautions. Up front Hopkins was solid as usual. He picked up bonus money from H & H trenching.

Harlee Aguilera led all 20-laps to win the lightning sprints feature. Matt Land ran second for the entirety of the race.  Joseph Feralito started third and finished third. Gregg Dennett passed Brandon Leady on lap nine for the fourth spot.
