Shark Week Starts Early This Year

Chico, CA (July 10, 2018) …. Everyone’s favorite week to binge on tv is coming up. Discovery Channel’s famed Shark Week starts July 22nd and ends July 29th. However, sprint car fans in Northern California will get an early preview this Friday night, July 13th, at Silver Dollar Speedway and Saturday night, July 14th, at Marysville Raceway, as Sean the “Shark” Becker will be racing both nights in the famed Menne Motorsports/Cherry St. Mini Storage/Incrediwear No. 75. “It has been awhile since Dan Menne and I raced Chico and Marysville in the same weekend,” said Becker. “I always appreciate the fans at both tracks and am looking forward to a rare start at Marysville.” He added, “I give those two tracks a lot of credit by promoting $1 admission this weekend. That is something you don’t see at any facilities in our area.”
Cherry St. Mini Storage will sponsor the 25-lap winged 360 sprint car main event on Friday night. The winner will receive a $500 bump in their winning paycheck. The race will now pay $2,000 to win. This will be the final Cherry St. Mini Storage race of the season and we at the Speedway couldn’t be more thankful to Mike and Carol for their continued generosity and support of Silver Dollar Speedway.
Friday night, the pit gate will open at 4 PM while the front grandstands will open at 6 PM. Racing is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM. The grandstand admission for this Friday nights race, July 13th, is just one dollar for all ages that comes through the front gate.
Saturday night, the pit gate will open at 3 PM while the front grandstands will open at 5 PM. The front grandstand admission is just $1 for everyone. Racing is scheduled to begin around 7 PM.
Other sprint car stars scheduled at Chico include Sacramento’s Willie Croft and Kalib Henry, Chico’s Mason Moore and Michael Ing, Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, Susanville’s Chelsea Blevins, and San Jose’s Brent Bjork. Australian driver Michael Cunningham will make his first visit of the season to Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday night.
Joining Becker at Marysville on Saturday include point leader’s Mike Monahan of Reno and Kenny Allen of Chico. Marysville’s Jeremy Hawes, sit’s three points back of the leaders, will also look to get back on top. Yuba City’s five-time champion Korey Lovell and Grass Valley’s Billy Wallace are also expected.
