The Wins Keep Coming for Lamar

The Wins Keep Coming for Lamar

Marysville, CA (June 25, 2016) – Cody Lamar is starting to become a fixture in victory lane. Lamar led all 25-laps at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night to record his second win of the year at his home track. Overall, it makes three wins for Lamar after an early triumph at Silver Dollar Speedway. Lamar started the night off by turning the fastest lap in qualifying with a 12.086. The only driver to beat Lamar tonight was Jeremy Phillips who won the first heat race. Lamar finished second to Phillips. A pair of racing veterans won the other two heat races. Mike Monahan won the second heat race while Korey Lovell secured the victory in heat three.

While Lamar led the entire distance there was some good racing behind him. Mike Monahan surrendered the second spot to Brad Bumgarner on lap 12. Two laps later Bumgarner came to a stop in turn two with motor problems. Monahan resumed the second spot. Heath Hall should be commended for a solid night of racing. The Oroville masher finished third. Hall qualified well and was competitive all night. Point leader Jeremy Burt continued his steady pace with a fourth place finish. Burt is well on his way to finding the right stride in becoming a champion. Lovell rounded out the top five. I’d be remised to not mention Trevor Canales, Devin Whitlock and Dustin Freitas. All three drivers showed glimpses of speed and I am hopeful to see them return to the race track soon.

Wyatt Brown wasn’t the fastest economy winged sprint car on Saturday night, but when it mattered; his steady driving won the race. Cameron Haney was dominating the race until late caution slowed the race. On the restart Haney had issues and it allowed for Brown to make the pass and take the lead. Brown went on to win. He also won the lone heat race to secure a clean sweep of the night. Haney did finish second in the main. Haney finished third in the opening heat race. Jeff Macedo finished in the third spot. Keith Mikaelsen drove a good race to finish fourth.

Six hobby stocks competed during the exciting 20 lap main event. Cameron Hammett and Cy Cooper were the show. These two youngsters battled all race long. At one point it looked as if Hammett would win. Then Cooper emerged as the leader. The final few laps were epic. In the end it was Cooper beating Hammett to the finish line by just 0.785. The crowd was boisterous as Cooper and Hammett crossed the line. Shannon Collins was steady and finished in the third spot. Jim Speck was also up front for a while until falling back to a fourth place finish. Todd Hemman ran up front until mechanical issues forced him to the infield on lap 14. Anthony Doubledee finished in the fifth spot.

Matt Beardslee won an emotional Pro 4 Sprint main event. After crossing the finish line first on lap 15, Beardslee slid onto the front stretch and stopped his car. He then proceeded to climb out of the driver’s seat and head to the top of his car. His excitement was overwhelming as he slammed his hand on top of his wing and yelled to the crowd. Jaylon Deas finished a close second place. Kelley Hicks turned the fastest lap of the race but ultimately finished third.

Damian Merritt led the opening lap of the IMCA Sport Mod main event. A star studded field of drivers graced the Marysville Raceway. Jim Waller led the second lap of the 20 lap main event. Then on lap three it was Willie Horn Jr.’s turn to pace the field. Horn has been very competitive lately and looked good up front. Just past the half-way point Brian Cooper emerged as the new contender for the lead. On lap 12 Horn had troubles in turn one and lost the lead to Cooper. Brian Cooper led the 13th lap. Phillip Shelby moved into the second spot and began to pressure Cooper for the lead. On lap 15 Shelby’s bid for the lead ended when a tire/rear-end issue forced his car to stop in turn four. The race resumed with Todd Cooper now in the second spot. The two brothers battled it out for the win during the final five laps. In the end Brian held off Todd to get the win. Jimmy Ford was the hard charger of the night. Ford lined up 10th and finished third. Waller held strong and finished fourth. Horn worked his way back up for a fifth place finish. Mike Merritt, Brian Cooper and Kyle Cheney were all winners during heat race action.
